For Buyers:
Community Activities

The range of social and physical activities available in most Virginia Active Adult Communities is exhaustive (and potentially exhausting).

If you choose, there is simply more to do than there is time. One resident said she has more friends, more stuff to do and more fun than anytime since high school.

Most communities have Activities Directors whose job is to ensure you never have "nothing to do."

Here is a (non-comprehensive) list of activities from a few of the community calendars:

  • Golf

  • Book Discussion Club

  • Bocce Ball

  • Pinochle

  • Poker

  • Holiday Party Planning

  • Book Club

  • Red Hatters

  • "Dine Around" Group (restaurant visits)

  • "Dance Around" Group (club visits)

  • Mahjongg

  • Bible Study

  • Casino Night (Charity)

  • Monday Night Football Gathering

  • Walking/Hiking Club

  • Softball League

  • Ballroom Dancing

  • Men's Lunch Group

  • Low Impact Aerobics

  • Seated Motion Exercise

  • Grandkids Swim

  • Art Shows

  • Wine Club / Winery Visits / Wine Tasting

  • Community Breakfasts

  • Computer Club / Classes

  • Genealogy Club

  • Garden Club

  • Volleyball

  • Bingo

  • Water Volleyball

  • Pickle Ball

  • Movie Group

  • Singing Groups

  • Tap Dancing (seriously)

  • Weight Lifting Training

  • Music Clubs (Guitar, Piano)

  • Singles Club

  • Tennis

  • D.C. excursions (Shows, Historic Sites, Museums, Dining, Tours)

  • Pocket Billiards

  • Ping Pong

  • Travel Planning Club

  • Bunco

  • Chess Club

  • Bridge Club

  • Line Dancing

  • Arts & Crafts Clubs

  • Museum Trips

  • Weight Watchers

  • Pot Luck Dinners (at the drop of a hat)

  • Water Aerobics

  • Fitness Classes

  • Disorganized Mayhem (not really; just kidding)

  • Sewing Club

  • Ladies Lunch Group

  • Toastmasters

  • Photography Club

  • Performing Arts Group

  • Yoga

  • Digital Photo Classes

  • Cooking Classes

  • Lifelong Learning Institute

  • Watercolors Classes

  • Woodworking

  • Most (civilized) Card Games

  • Pottery

  • Cruises, Group Vacations

  • Political Clubs

  • Aquatic Exercise

Of course, not all activities are available at all communities but that should not stop you. If you have a special interest or hobby, you can start a group or club. Activities Directors love that; it makes their jobs easier.
